A Quiet Day...Sort Of

We spent the day relaxing and trying to get our girl better.   We started the day with a Skype with Auntie Kristen and Cousin Andrew which was lots of fun.  Then we had lunch and took a walk around the block so we all could get some fresh air and sunshine.  It's still pretty cold here so we made it a short one.  I think we will all benefit from the shopping and sightseeing tomorrow and Friday just to get out of this tiny hotel room!

The not-so-quiet parts of the day were due to the numerous temper tantrums of Silly Sofie.  We agreed that with all the upcoming travel and since she has bonded so well with us both already, we need to break her of her spoiled foster kid habits and establish some boundaries.  It's been tough for her since she is clearly used to getting her way, but when she is not throwing a fit she is just as sweet, loving and silly as always.  The tantrums are getting fewer and shorter, so I think...hope...we are on the right track.

Some things we have learned about Miss Sofie Hongyan:

  • She loves to be naked!  It's almost impossible to keep clothes on her!

  • She loves her some noodles and is a pro with the chopsticks.

  • At only 3 1/2, she has developed quite the "stink eye" look and "tsssst" when she doesn't like something.

  • They were right when they said she likes to stick her nose in to everything.  I can't do anything without her running over to see what I am doing.  She uses a little wooden linen basket as a step stool to climb up and see.

  • Once that kid is asleep, it's lights out for 12 hours.  We can watch t.v. (CNN or HBO!) and have wine...

  • She loves the Mama...only the Mama can hold her...and the Mama has a very sore back!  Kid weighs like 34 pounds!

  • Her leg and missing toes do not slow her down one bit.  She has adjusted so well and we don't even notice it anymore.

We are looking forward to some shopping tomorrow.  Hoping to find lots of Mongolian treasures!

Here are some photos from the day...

  4. From some of the stories I read about meeting and bonding, I think you're really fortunate to have just a few tantrums. It will take time to adjust to new sets of rules. She's (and you two) are doing great.xoxoxo

  6. Frank and I loved talking to you and getting a glimpse of Sofie on your lap Melissa and Brandon wrapped up in a great big towel. She moves at warp speed. Up, down, run across the room to fix the drapes. A very active, happy child. Seems like you all are pulling to the top of the hill and will soon be over the hump going downhill, full speed all the way. Love to all three.
