Our Free Day in Beijing

We wandered around Beijing a bit today.  There are still decorations up everywhere from Spring Festival and it is quite festive and beautiful.  We tried to eat at a restaurant our friend Traci recommended, but it ended up being quite an adventure and we never did find it.  But, ended up finding a little place and had a nice meal and some refreshing Tsingtao's.

Winding down now...listening to fireworks going off all around the district.  Tomorrow we will tour around so I will take lots of photos and post some for your viewing pleasure.

  5. Hey there, Patricia from the Summer LID yahoo group. I'm glad to see that it's not freezing in Beijing. How much longer until you head to inner mongolia??
Are you nervous? Jet lagged? It's all so exciting and exhausting all at the same time. Try to get as much sleep as you can now.
When we were in Beijing waiting to head to Jiangxi we went to Ya Xiu (sp?) mall and had some suits made to order for my husband very cheap and we picked them up later, but they can ship them and they are gorgeous and good quality. I should had had some clothes made for me but I wasn't thinking straight at the time. Men are so much less emotional (until the moment of course). Others had some clothing made by a tailor that came to the hotel, organized by the agency, but they were more expensive and poorer quality. Check it out if you have time.
We also went to the old pearl market and there are great purses (if you're into that sort of thing) there for great prices. The silk ties for men are also wonderful...should have bought more.
Shopping for me was a good way to put in the time waiting to go and meet Grace (Ting Ting). There are a lot more clothes in Beijing then we could find in the province too, so if you know the size you'll need, pick some up now.
Keep up posted, I love reading your updates! Best of luck and I hope that your dreams come true soon.

  6. Hi Melissa! It's great to see you there. Dana and I are waiting at LAX right now. It's about 3:00 PM local time and the plane doesn't depart until 11:50 PM, but we are camping out right near the ticket counter so we will be ready when they finally open. I can't wait to see your pictures from the Beijing tour. Have fun!
