Sofie's favorite cartoon in China was "Pleasant Goat". She looked for it each day and I think it was comforting to have something familiar to watch and listen to. She has been asking for it every day since we've been home, so I found a copy on eBay and it finally arrived a few days ago. Needless to say, she was very excited!

Sadly, we had to make it disappear after only one viewing. She suddenly forgot all the English she had learned and lapsed back in to speaking only Mandarin...but her English is back after just a few days.

She is surely going to be a cheerleader! Her enthusiasm is great. I wish I had 1/2 of her energy. xo
ReplyDeleteWow, she was so happy. Isn't that great? Here's my two cents, for what it's worth. For now, find some Pleasant Goat accessories: a doll, shoes, t-shirt, room decals...whatever. She would have the familiar sight, but not the language. Try the video again in another month. It would be fantastic if she can remember Mandarin and learn English. It would probably be a bit of a balancing act for you, but perhaps worth the effort in the end.
ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteDo you think you could find a way to bottle some of that energy? That would be great! I loved her enthusiasm talking with her on the phone too! She makes me smile watching her!

Heather - we brought home some goat dolls and stuff so she has them already. The cartoon does have English subtitles and quite frankly, it's a bit naughty. Another reason we decided to save it for later.
ReplyDeleteOf course we will help her retain her language, but for now the priority is to be able to communicate effectively with us. We are getting there!
Kai Land she would love! One of Carter's favorites!
